India is expected to get above-normal rainfall in September, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This comes after several parts of the country have already faced floods and heavy rain disasters this season. The IMD said rainfall in September 2025 will be more than 109% of the usual 167.9 mm. Most regions will see normal or above-normal rain. However, parts of the northeast, east, extreme south, and some areas in northwest India may get less rain.
IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra warned of heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand. He said this could cause landslides and flash floods, affecting cities and towns downstream.
Heavy rain may also disrupt normal life in south Haryana, Delhi, and north Rajasthan. The Mahanadi river’s upper areas in Chhattisgarh are also likely to receive heavy rainfall, he added.
