An event was held at Chennai’s Kamala Cinemas for the 4K trailer and audio launch of the film “Captain Prabhakaran.” The movie, which is Vijayakanth’s 100th, is scheduled for a re-release on August 22. The event was attended by various film personalities, including director R.K. Selvamani, dialogue writer Liaquat Ali Khan, Mansoor Ali Khan, actress Ramya Krishnan, and Vijayakanth’s son, Vijay Prabhakaran.Director S.A. Chandrasekar, praising Vijayakanth, stated that “Gratitude and humanity are synonymous with Vijayakanth.” He recalled how Vijayakanth agreed to star in his son Vijay’s first film, “Naalaya Theerpu,” after it failed, helping to launch his career. Chandrasekar also shared that Vijayakanth refused to take any salary for their 17-day film “Sendoorapandi.”
Vijayakanth’s son, Vijay Prabhakaran, asked the audience to celebrate “Captain Prabhakaran” as if it were his father’s first film. He promised that “Every year from now on, my father’s films will be re-released” for a new generation of audiences. Actor Mansoor Ali Khan, who was introduced in this movie, shared amusing anecdotes from the shoot, while actress Ramya Krishnan noted that the film’s success brought her acting opportunities for the next ten years.
Director R.K. Selvamani became emotional, stating that “My parents in the film industry are Vijayakanth and Ibrahim Rauther.” He recounted how Vijayakanth risked his life during a stunt and hid his injuries to ensure the shoot continued. He also explained the decision to name the film “Captain Prabhakaran.”
The re-release rights for the film have been acquired by Karthik Venkatesan of Sparrow Cinemas. “Captain Prabhakaran” is set to be re-released in approximately 500 theaters across Tamil Nadu on August 22.
