Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced that 45 road projects covering 1,476 km have been completed in Tamil Nadu under the BharatMala scheme, at a cost of ₹48,172 crore.In total, 1,476 projects have been sanctioned, of which 1,230 km are complete. The scheme, launched in 2015, aims to connect 550 district headquarters with at least four-lane highways, improve rural connectivity, reduce congestion, and boost trade and employment.
Delays have been caused by land acquisition issues, financial problems, and difficulty in getting materials. To speed up work, the government has introduced the Bhoomi Rashi portal for land acquisition and the Parivesh portal for faster online environmental and forest clearances.
