An Air India flight from Hong Kong to Delhi experienced an unexpected event when its auxiliary power unit (APU) caught fire after landing at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) on Tuesday. The flight AI315 had arrived from Hong Kong. All passengers are reported evacuated safely in time, and the crew members are also safe.Crucially, no passengers were onboard at the time, preventing any injuries or casualties. Air India subsequently released a statement confirming that the fire was limited to the APU and did not compromise the main aircraft systems.
The incident has sparked concerns regarding maintenance protocols and pre-flight safety checks. Aviation experts suggest that the ground-based nature of the fire points towards a potential mechanical or electrical fault within the APU system.
