After a goalless first half, Gurjinder Singh broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute, while Sumit Kumar sealed the win with a field goal in the 58th minute. Despite showing attacking potential, the Malaysian side struggled to breach the disciplined IOC defence. In Pool A, Railways Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) delivered a dominant 6-0 win over the Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu.
