Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has written to the Union Government urging urgent diplomatic action to release Indian fishermen arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy.
In his letter, Stalin highlighted a recent incident where seven fishermen and their mechanised boat were arrested early this morning. On the same day, another Indian fishing boat was reportedly hit by a Sri Lankan naval ship, causing serious damage.
He said such repeated incidents are deeply worrying. They not only threaten the safety and livelihood of fishermen but also push their families into long-term economic distress.
The CM also pointed out that several fishermen arrested in 2024 are still in Sri Lankan custody. As of now, 50 Tamil Nadu fishermen and 232 fishing boats remain detained by Sri Lankan authorities.
