In a daring daylight robbery on Wednesday, miscreants broke into a house in Thanjavur, made off with 16 sovereigns of jewelry, and used chilli powder to cover their tracks and facilitate their escape.
The incident occurred at the ancestral home of Haja Maideen (55) in Rajagiri village, Papanasam. Maideen, who works in Saudi Arabia, has his wife Hazeena Begam, son Malik Ibrahim, brother Abdul Haleem, and sister-in-law Mariam Parveen residing in the house.
The family had temporarily moved to a newly constructed house just a few meters away on Tuesday. On Wednesday morning, when Malik Ibrahim returned to the old house to retrieve some items, he discovered the doors wide open. To his shock, he found two unidentified individuals inside, actively scattering chilli powder throughout the premises.
Upon being confronted, the robbers attacked Malik Ibrahim before fleeing the scene. A subsequent inspection of the house revealed that 16 sovereigns of jewelry were missing.
Malik Ibrahim promptly filed a complaint with the Papanasam police.
Police officials and fingerprint experts quickly arrived at the scene to conduct an inquiry. A case has been registered, and investigations are currently underway.
