Namakkal, July 7:   In a tragic incident, a married couple died by suicide after jumping in front of a moving train near Vagarampatti in Namakkal district on Sunday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Subramani (40), an RTO officer based in Tiruchirappalli, and his wife Pramila, a primary school teacher at the Andapuram Panchayat Union School. The couple, residents of Namakkal, are survived by their two children — a son and a daughter.

According to sources, the couple is believed to have ended their lives due to personal distress, though the exact cause is still under investigation. Railway police reached the spot soon after the incident, recovered the bodies, and sent them for post-mortem to the Namakkal Government Hospital. A case has been registered, and further inquiries are underway.

Authorities have urged people facing emotional or mental distress to seek help and reach out to support services rather than taking extreme steps.
