Former Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai has accused Chief Minister M.K. Stalin of ignoring Crucial welfare issues related to children and pregnant women, while focusing only on including his father’s legacy in school textbooks.
In a press statement annamalai expressed shock over the non-payment of salaries to contract workers under the central government’s flagship Poshan Abhiyaan nutrition scheme for the past three months. He also highlighted complaints that, even a month after schools reopened, essential supplies like rice, dal, and cooking oil have not been provided under the mid-day meal scheme in districts like Pudukkottai and Madurai.
Annamalai pointed out that Poshan Abhiyaan, a programme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure the health and nutrition of pregnant women and children, and the mid-day meal scheme — first introduced by K. Kamaraj and later expanded by MGR — aim to support children’s education by ensuring they are not studying on an empty stomach.
“Instead of worrying about our children’s education or the health of pregnant women, Chief Minister Stalin is only focused on pushing his father’s history into school curriculum,” Annamalai criticised.
He also questioned the use of central funds, stating that the Union government allocated ₹398.52 crore for Poshan Abhiyaan in 2023–24 and ₹324.2 crore up to March 2025. “Where is all this money going?” he asked.
Accusing the state of corruption in nutrition kits meant for pregnant women, he warned against shutting down the scheme altogether. He demanded that pending salaries for Poshan Abhiyaan workers be paid immediately and mid-day meal supplies be delivered without delay.
Annamalai concluded by urging the DMK government to prioritize the well-being of women and children over political agendas.
