The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has announced a statewide hunger protest on June 20, in support of mango farmers suffering from a drastic price crash this season.

The protest aims to highlight the plight of farmers who are forced to sell mangoes at unreasonably low prices, sometimes as low as ₹4 per kilogram.

Farmers from mango-producing districts such as Dindigul, Madurai, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Tirupattur, Vellore, and Theni are expected to participate in the protest.

The AIADMK has demanded that the Tamil Nadu government and central authorities take immediate steps to:

Announce a Minimum Support Price (MSP) for mangoes

Provide compensation of ₹50,000 per acre to affected farmers

Establish cold storage facilities and processing units to preserve excess produce

Regulate market practices to prevent exploitation by middlemen

Party leaders stated that unless urgent action is taken, the livelihood of thousands of mango farmers will be at risk. The hunger strike is intended to draw public and administrative attention to this pressing agricultural crisis.

The AIADMK has called on the ruling DMK government to uphold its responsibility toward farmers and ensure fair pricing and support infrastructure to safeguard the state’s agrarian economy.
