Mandaveli bus depot gets makeover with Metro integration

Chennai, June 13:
In a major step towards transit-oriented development, the Mandaveli Bus Depot and Terminal is set for a massive upgrade, integrating retail and commercial spaces with Chennai Metro’s Corridor 3 of Phase 2. Chennai Metro Asset Management Limited (CMAML), a joint venture between Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) and TIDCO, has floated a ₹151 crore tender for the project, including GST and provisional sum.
The modernization plan includes construction of integrated Entry/Exit points for the upcoming Mandaveli Underground Metro Station, along with efficient bus drop-off and pick-up bays, all within the existing terminal and depot land.
Project Scope and Site Details:
Site-1: 3,031 sq.m (0.745 acres) | Built-up: 13,419 sq.m
Site-2: 3,594 sq.m (0.88 acres) | Built-up: 15,966 sq.m
Both sites enjoy dual road access from RK Mutt Road and its perpendicular streets.
Key Features:
A multi-modal facility combining metro access, bus services, commercial offices, and retail spaces.
Tower A: Ground to 7 floors for office/commercial use; basement parking for 184 two-wheelers and 96 cars.
Tower B: Ground to 7 floors for retail use; basement parking for 318 two-wheelers and 96 cars.
Total development area: 29,385 sq.m.
Green initiative: Solar panels to be installed on the terrace, aligning with sustainable building norms.
This redevelopment marks a significant boost to urban mobility infrastructure in Chennai, aiming to enhance commuter convenience, stimulate local commerce, and promote sustainable urban growth.
