DMDK General Secretary Premalatha Vijayakanth has made it clear that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has not approached her party for any alliance talks ahead of the upcoming elections. Speaking to the media, she said, “We have not received any call or invitation from the BJP so far. Our political journey is moving ahead strongly and independently.” Premalatha also emphasized that the DMDK continues to be part of the AIADMK-led alliance and has not made any move to break away from it. “We never said we’re quitting the AIADMK front. The alliance stands as is,” she clarified. She took the opportunity to thank the DMK for expressing condolences on the passing of party founder Vijayakanth. “It was a respectful gesture and reflects political decency,” she said. With various parties in Tamil Nadu beginning early alliance talks for the 2026 Assembly elections, Premalatha’s statement puts an end to speculation about the DMDK moving closer to the BJP. She reiterated that political decisions would be made keeping people’s welfare in mind and that the DMDK will remain firm in its ideology and path.
