The habit of cycling as a form of exercise is gaining momentum in Chennai, with several areas witnessing an increasing number of people taking to the streets early in the morning. While health experts emphasize the benefits of cycling, enthusiasts are calling for dedicated cycling lanes on key roads.
Dr. Ramesh Kumar, a city-based cardiologist, highlighted the health benefits of cycling. “Regular cycling improves cardiovascular health, strengthens muscles, and helps in weight management. It is a great way to stay fit while also being environmentally friendly,” he said.
Many cyclists believe the city needs better infrastructure to support this growing trend. “Cycling in Chennai can be risky due to heavy traffic and lack of designated lanes. If the government provides safe cycling tracks, more people would adopt this healthy habit,” said Rajesh Menon, a regular cyclist.
With the increasing popularity of cycling, enthusiasts hope that authorities will take steps to ensure safer roads, making Chennai a more cyclist-friendly city.
