People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) has urged the Union govt to initiate efforts to protect children from direct physical harm at jallikattu events, whether as spectators or participants.
In a memorandum to Union women and child development minister Annpurna Devi, Peta India Manager (Vegan and Corporate Projects) Kiran Ahuja also urged the Centre to protect children from exposure to violence against animals during animal sacrifice and where animals are abused for ‘entertainment’, such as in circuses, and races.
