India’s protest against China’s unilateral decision to create two new counties in the Hotan prefecture reflects New Delhi’s firm stance on safeguarding its sovereignty. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has rightly pointed out that portions of these counties fall within the Union Territory of Ladakh, an integral part of India.
China’s move is not just a geographical assertion but a clear provocation that challenges established boundaries and international norms. By reiterating that such actions do not alter India’s rightful claims nor legitimise China’s occupation, India sends a strong message of resistance against attempts to undermine its territorial integrity.
This episode underscores the need for a resolute diplomatic approach, coupled with strategic measures to address broader regional challenges. Upholding sovereignty is not just a matter of national pride but a commitment to maintaining the sanctity of international borders and laws.
