Chennai, Dec 26: In the sexual assault case involving a student at Anna University, Chennai, the accused, Gnanasekaran, has been sent to judicial custody. Police stated that he sustained fractures in his left arm and leg after attempting to flee during his arrest.
The incident occurred at Anna University, where a 19-year-old second-year mechanical engineering student residing in the hostel was assaulted. On December 23, around 8 PM, after her evening walk, she was reportedly sitting behind the Highway Research Lab building when an unidentified man threatened and sexually assaulted her before fleeing the scene.
The victim filed a complaint with Police Commissioner Arun the day before yesterday. Under the supervision of Inspector Padma Devi of the Kotturpuram Women’s Police Station, an investigation was conducted, leading to the arrest of Gnanasekaran, a street-side biryani vendor.
Tamil Nadu BJP President Annamalai alleged that Gnanasekaran was a DMK functionary. However, Minister Kovi. Chezhiyan refuted the claim, stating, “Gnanasekaran is not affiliated with the DMK. Annamalai always blames the DMK for any incident.”
Following his arrest, Gnanasekaran was admitted to Stanley Medical College Hospital due to fractures in his arm and leg. A Saidapet court has ordered him to 15 days of judicial custody.
