Frequent park visitors in Chennai have a reason to rejoice as the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has announced a tender worth ₹46 crores to restore and maintain more than 500 parks across the city. This move aims to enhance the green spaces and improve the overall condition of public parks.
According to the tender details, the city’s parks have been divided into three packages. Package 1 allocates ₹8.978 crores for the maintenance of 122 parks in North Chennai. Similarly, ₹18.49 crores have been earmarked for the upkeep of 215 parks in Central Chennai under Package 2. In addition, ₹18.52 crores have been allocated for the maintenance of 258 parks in South Chennai under Package 3. The deadline for submitting tender documentation is set for 2nd January 2025.
A pre-bid meeting is scheduled to take place on 23rd December 2024 at the office of the superintendent engineer of parks and playgrounds at the Chennai Corporation headquarters. This meeting will address queries and provide clarification to interested bidders.
Meanwhile, the GCC has intensified its efforts to clean parks and playgrounds across the city. Following the heavy rains caused by Cyclone Fengel, zonal officials have been tasked with listing damaged properties. These damages will be rectified as part of the restoration process.
This initiative by the GCC is expected to significantly improve the green spaces in Chennai, offering residents well-maintained parks to enjoy.
