A comprehensive review meeting on the activities undertaken by the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) was held on Thursday, chaired by Mayor R Priya.The meeting focused on the development works for cemeteries across the city. The review covered the progress in the development of 203 cemeteries within GCC limits. Discussions were held on constructing perimeter walls and footpaths, creating green spaces, improving essential infrastructure such as electricity, water, and toilet facilities, and enhancing security measures. Maintenance work and the deployment of adequate personnel for these facilities were also reviewed, with specific recommendations made for further action.
Following this, the Mayor conducted another meeting to review the progress of projects and initiatives announced in the GCC’s 2024-25 budget. Developmental works across various departments, including Education, Public Health, Mechanical Engineering, Stormwater Drainage, Buildings, Bridges, Parks and Recreation, Information Technology, Solid Waste Management, and Bus Route Roads, were discussed in detail.
Mayor Priya emphasized the need for expediting the implementation of these projects and instructed officials to take necessary measures to ensure their timely completion. The review highlighted the corporation’s commitment to improving civic infrastructure and public services in Chennai.
