The Madras High Court has directed its registry to return the security amount deposited by actor TR Silambarasan along with the interest accrued, following the settlement of a financial dispute between the actor and production house Vels Film International Limited.
Justice PB Balaji was hearing an application filed by Silambarasan, requesting the registrar general of the court to return the deposit amount as per the court’s directive. The actor’s counsel, Advocate Vijayan Subramanian, informed the court that the dispute between Silambarasan and Vels Film International had been amicably resolved through mediation by retired Justice K Kannan, who was appointed by the court. Both parties had withdrawn their case after reaching a settlement.
The dispute arose when Vels Film International approached the high court seeking an injunction against Silambarasan, alleging that he had breached his commitment to complete the film Corona Kumar. The production house claimed that they had paid the actor an advance of Rs 4.5 crore out of his total fee of Rs 9.5 crore in 2021. However, they alleged that the actor began working on other films without finishing their project.
In response, the court had ordered Silambarasan to deposit a security amount of Rs 1 crore. The actor complied with the order on November 10. Following the successful settlement and withdrawal of the case, the court has now directed the return of the security deposit with interest
