In an unprecedented move, the opposition alliance “Indi,” comprising 18 parties, has introduced a no-confidence motion against Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, marking the first such attempt in the 72-year history of the Rajya Sabha. This move, described by BJP spokesperson A.N.S. Prasad as a desperate and unconstitutional tactic, is seen as an attempt to undermine the authority of the Chairman and disrupt parliamentary proceedings.
The opposition’s move is driven by frustration over the BJP government’s people-centric initiatives, which have received widespread support. Despite lacking the numbers to succeed, the opposition seeks to create a false narrative and divert attention from real issues.
Prasad emphasized that the Chairman, a constitutional authority, is accountable only to the Constitution and not to any political party. Citing past Supreme Court judgments, he stressed that the Chairman’s decision on the admissibility of the motion is final and binding.
The opposition’s actions are viewed as an attempt to blackmail the government for political gain. However, Prasad believes the move will fail, as the people of India will see through the opposition’s tactics and reject their efforts to destabilize Parliament.
