BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan criticized Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for not voicing concerns about the violence against Hindus in Bangladesh.
Speaking in the Assembly, Vanathi pointed out that Chief Minister Stalin issued compassionate statements in support of Palestinians amid the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict. However, she questioned his silence on the atrocities faced by Hindus in neighboring Bangladesh.
She highlighted that Dalit Hindus in Bangladesh are subjected to severe violence, with temples and places of worship being attacked allegedly with state support. “Why hasn’t the Chief Minister issued a statement condemning these acts of violence?” she asked.
In response, Assembly Speaker Appavu said, “The Prime Minister has not addressed what is happening in Bangladesh or even Manipur. These issues must be raised in Parliament.”
Vanathi also accused the DMK government of neglecting temple elephants. She noted that since the DMK assumed power, no rejuvenation camps for temple elephants have been conducted. She linked this neglect to the recent death of a mahout in Tiruchendur.
Responding to the allegations, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister P.K. Sekarbabu assured that the government is addressing issues related to temple elephants. “If concerns about affected elephants are brought to our attention, they will be sent to rejuvenation camps. However, rejuvenation camps are not necessary for well-trained and healthy temple elephants,” he said.
