“We will not rest until the DMK government is sent home,” declared AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) as party members gathered at the memorial of late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa to commemorate her 8th death anniversary.
Dressed in black shirts, symbolizing their protest, AIADMK cadres, led by EPS, paid floral tributes at Jayalalithaa’s memorial on Chennai’s Marina Beach. Senior leaders, including former ministers K.P. Munusamy, Dindigul Srinivasan, D. Jayakumar, Natham Viswanathan, Vijayabaskar, Vaigaiselvan, Pollachi Jayaraman, Udayakumar, Sellur Raju, Valarmathi, Gokula Indira, and actress Gautami, were among those who participated in the solemn event.
Following the tribute, EPS led the party members in taking a pledge to overthrow the DMK government, vowing to:
Defeat the oppressive forces: Work tirelessly to oust the DMK government and its alleged “family-centric” rule while adhering to the principles of AIADMK’s iconic leaders, M.G. Ramachandran (MGR) and J. Jayalalithaa.
Expose false promises: Continue to reveal the “fake face” of the so-called Dravidian model, criticizing the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and their family members who allegedly control the government.
Relieve economic burdens: Address the rising costs of essentials such as water charges, property taxes, milk prices, electricity tariffs, and bus fares, which have placed undue strain on the poor.
Tackle social issues: Combat the increasing prevalence of drug abuse, which the party attributes to DMK’s mismanagement.
Restore Amma’s governance: Ensure a resounding victory in the next assembly elections and reinstate the welfare-driven governance of Jayalalithaa.
In a press release, EPS stated, “We will forever echo the voice of the people by following the path laid by Jayalalithaa. Driving out oppressive forces and re-establishing her governance will be the true tribute to her. Our aim is to create a Tamil Nadu marked by peace, prosperity, and inclusive growth.”
