Chennai: The Southern Railway has announced the cancellation of five express trains between Chennai and southern districts of Tamil Nadu due to severe flooding caused by heavy rains from Cyclone Benzal.
Continuous rainfall has severely impacted several districts across the state, with water levels rising beyond danger marks at a bridge between Vikravandi and Mundiyampakkam railway stations. For passenger safety, the Southern Railway decided to suspend the following express trains: Vaigai Express, Karaikudi-Chennai Pallavan Express, Madurai Tejas Express, Chennai-Nagercoil Vande Bharat Express, and Chennai-Madurai Tejas Express.
Additionally, other trains including the Chennai-Tiruchirappalli Cholan Express, Villupuram-Tambaram Express, and Puducherry-Chennai Express have also been cancelled. The decision was made as a precautionary measure to ensure passenger safety amid the adverse weather conditions.
