Following the arrest of 23 fishermen from Rameswaram on November 10, the Sri Lankan Navy has apprehended 12 more Tamil Nadu fishermen today (November 12).
On November 10, 23 fishermen from Rameswaram were fishing near Neduntheevu (Delft Island) when they were surrounded by the Sri Lankan Navy, who were on patrol. Citing alleged boundary violations, the Sri Lankan authorities arrested the fishermen and seized three of their mechanized boats.
In a subsequent incident, 12 more Tamil Nadu fishermen were detained today while fishing near Paruthithurai. The Sri Lankan Navy took them into custody, also seizing one mechanized boat.
These repeated arrests have sparked concerns among the fishing community and authorities in Tamil Nadu, as they continue to urge the central government to take swift diplomatic action to resolve the ongoing issues between Indian and Sri Lankan fishermen over territorial waters and fishing rights.
