Recently, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) addressed the media, stating, “We will form alliances with like-minded parties, and these decisions will be finalized closer to the elections.” This statement sparked criticism from the DMK, which alleged that AIADMK was inclined toward renewing its alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In response to these speculations, former AIADMK Minister D. Jayakumar provided a clear explanation during a press interaction in Royapettah, Chennai. Jayakumar pointed out, “Typically, the Prime Minister only meets with state Chief Ministers. However, DMK minister Udhayanidhi Stalin has been meeting with Prime Minister Modi with relative ease. This indicates an implicit alliance between the DMK and BJP. Such a scenario does not exist for the AIADMK. We have not been, and are not, in an alliance with the BJP.”

Jayakumar elaborated on Palaniswami’s statement about forming alliances with “like-minded parties.” He explained, “What EPS meant by ‘like-minded’ is any party committed to removing the DMK from power in Tamil Nadu. This does not include the BJP. There have been attempts to twist his words for political gain, but the public will not be misled by these tactics.”

Dismissing any potential for collaboration, Jayakumar asserted, “There is neither an alliance nor an understanding with the BJP at present, and this stance will continue in the future.”

This clarification comes amidst ongoing efforts by the AIADMK to strengthen its position in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, where alliances play a crucial role in shaping electoral outcomes. As AIADMK seeks partners aligned with its goal to defeat the DMK, it has made it clear that the BJP is not part of its alliance strategy.
