After concerns of heavy rainfall looming over Chennai, the latest weather predictions bring a sense of relief to residents. Initially, forecasts predicted over 20 cm of rain, leading to a red alert in the city. However, the low-pressure system has since moved towards southern Andhra Pradesh, significantly reducing the chances of Chennai receiving intense downpours.
The fear of heavy rains has now eased, with meteorologists indicating that the city can expect light to moderate rainfall instead. Occasional drizzles may be experienced in certain parts of Chennai, but the widespread deluge originally predicted is no longer a concern.
“The low-pressure system has shifted northward towards southern Andhra Pradesh, reducing the intensity of rainfall over Chennai. We are expecting normal monsoon rains with occasional drizzles in some areas,” explained a private weather forecaster.
Many parts of Chennai have already received rains since last night, with moderate showers reported in certain areas. These rains, though steady, were not as intense as initially feared. While waterlogging was observed in low-lying regions, the overall impact remained manageable.
“The weather situation is improving, and there’s no need to panic. We are continuing to monitor the situation closely,” he added.
