Anna University in Guindy has once again been the target of a bomb threat, marking the twelfth incident of its kind in recent months. The latest threat was communicated via email to the registrar’s office, prompting an immediate response from authorities.
Following the receipt of the threat, a Bomb Disposal and Detection Squad was dispatched to conduct thorough checks of the campus. After an extensive investigation, officials confirmed that the threat was a hoax, and there was no danger to students or staff.
The Kotturpuram police have since registered a case and are collaborating with the cybercrime wing to trace the source of the threat. Initial investigations indicate that the sender likely used a virtual private network (VPN) to mask their identity, raising challenges in pinpointing the origin of the email.
Chennai Police Commissioner Arun has urged the public not to take such threats seriously, emphasizing that these hoaxes are often linked to criminal gangs operating from foreign countries. He reassured citizens that efforts to apprehend those responsible are being intensified.
This incident reflects a troubling trend, as similar bomb threats have been reported at various locations across India, including railway stations, educational institutions, and airports. Authorities continue to stress the importance of vigilance and cooperation from the public to combat such criminal activities.
