‘Act swiftly on sexual harassment cases’

Chief Secretary Muruganandam has issued strict orders to District Collectors and Police Officials to take immediate action on complaints of sexual harassment against female students. Additionally, he emphasized the need to completely eliminate drug trafficking in areas surrounding educational institutions.
The Chief Secretary held a video conference yesterday with Collectors, Superintendents of Police (SPs), and principals of educational institutions to discuss the safety of school and college students. The meeting, conducted from the Chief Secretariat, was also attended in person by Home Secretary Dheeraj Kumar, Director General of Police (DGP) Shankar Jiwal, and other police officials.
During the meeting, Chief Secretary Muruganandam highlighted the following key points:
Student Safety: He stressed that appropriate measures must be taken to ensure the safety of female students in schools and colleges. In cases where complaints of sexual harassment arise, the police must act swiftly against the offenders.
Prevention of Incidents: Muruganandam called for proactive steps to prevent such incidents from occurring. He urged the authorities to encourage female students to report any inappropriate behavior or misconduct they encounter.
Drug Trafficking: The Chief Secretary directed that strict action be taken against individuals selling drugs near educational institutions. He underscored the importance of eradicating drug trafficking completely in these areas.
Awareness Initiatives: Muruganandam also emphasized the need to raise awareness among students about the dangers of drug use. He urged educational institutions to educate students on the harmful effects of drugs and encourage them to report any drug-related activities they observe.
Increased Surveillance: Lastly, the Chief Secretary instructed officials to intensify surveillance in areas surrounding educational institutions to ensure that they remain free from drug-related activities and other illegal conduct.

The meeting concluded with a strong directive to all concerned authorities to prioritize the safety and well-being of students and to take immediate and effective measures against any threats to their security.
