More than 1.20 lakh students are expected to join various engineering colleges across Tamil Nadu this year, following the conclusion of three rounds of counselling under the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA-2024). The Directorate of Technical Education (DOTE) has released provisional seat allotments to 51,920 candidates during the final round of counselling.
This year, TNEA-2024 witnessed a significant number of applicants, with over 1.97 lakh students applying for engineering seats. The admissions process commenced on May 6 and involved several crucial steps, including the release of random numbers and the preparation of a merit/rank list, which was finalized on July 10.
Counselling for the three rounds took place between July 29 and August 25. In the first two rounds, 71,110 students were offered provisional seat allotments, and an additional 51,920 students received allotments during the third and final round. Altogether, over 1.23 lakh students have been provisionally allocated seats across various engineering institutions in the state.
Despite these large numbers, the TNEA counselling process is not yet complete. The DOTE has announced that supplementary counselling will be held from September 6 to 8, aimed at filling the remaining vacant seats. This supplementary phase is particularly crucial for students who have passed the special supplementary exams for Higher Secondary (Class 12). Registration for this phase began on August 28 and will continue until September 4.
A senior official from the DOTE highlighted the importance of the upcoming supplementary counselling, stating, “All the unfilled seats at the closure of TNEA general counselling will be allocated to eligible students during this phase.”
With a robust counselling process and additional opportunities for students through the supplementary phase, TNEA-2024 continues to provide a pathway for thousands of aspiring engineers across Tamil Nadu.
