Chennai: AIADMK General Secretary, Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS), has accused the DMK government of imposing excessive taxes on the people of Tamil Nadu, saying they are being taxed for everything from standing, walking, and talking to even drinking water.

In a statement, EPS criticized the recent hike in the prices of school textbooks by the DMK government, particularly for private school students, where the prices have reportedly increased by up to 40%. He expressed his strong disapproval of the government’s decision, accusing it of burdening the public with unnecessary financial strain.

EPS’s statement read: “I condemn the DMK government for raising the prices of school textbooks. The cost of textbooks for private school students has been hiked by approximately 40%. The people are being taxed for everything—whether they stand, walk, talk, or even drink water. This has gone too far.”

He further added, “The DMK government, led by Chief Minister Stalin, seems to be intent on pushing the people of Tamil Nadu into debt. The citizens are already struggling with high inflation and multiple increases in government fees. The recent hike in textbook prices is like pouring oil onto the fire of daily hardships faced by the people of Tamil Nadu. The state government should immediately roll back this price increase.”

EPS’s remarks reflect growing concerns over the rising cost of living and the government’s taxation policies, which he claims are making life increasingly difficult for the people of Tamil Nadu.
