A special event to release a centenary commemorative coin in honor of the late former Chief Minister and DMK leader M. Karunanidhi will be held in Chennai on August 18. Invitations have been extended to leaders of all political parties to attend the event.The Central Government has granted permission to issue a ₹100 coin featuring the image of Karunanidhi to mark his 100th birth anniversary. The release ceremony will take place at Kalaivanar Arangam in Chennai at 6:50 PM. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will preside over the event, and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will officially release the coin.
Invitations have been sent to various dignitaries, including AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami and Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai, along with other political leaders and prominent figures from the film industry.
The commemorative ₹100 coin features the emblem of the Government of India on one side and a portrait of Karunanidhi on the other. Below the portrait, the words “Tamil Vellum” (Tamil Will Prevail) are inscribed, along with the phrase “Kalaignar Karunanidhi Centenary 1924 – 2024.”
