Ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, members of the DMK Women’s Wing have strongly urged the party’s coordination committee to allocate more constituencies to women candidates.
To strategize for the upcoming elections, the DMK has established a five-member committee that includes Ministers K.N. Nehru, E.V. Velu, Thangam Thennarasu, Udhayanidhi Stalin, and R.S. Bharathi. This committee is engaging with leaders from the party’s 22 subsidiary units to gather inputs and formulate plans.
The first round of discussions began yesterday at Chennai’s Arivalayam with leaders from the Women’s Wing and the Students’ Wing. Attendees included State President of the Students’ Wing Rajiv Gandhi, State Secretary Ezhilarasan, State President of the Women’s Wing Vijaya Thayanban, and State Secretary Helen Davidson, among others.
During the meeting, the Women’s Wing leaders emphasized the need for increased representation compared to previous elections. They called for the appointment of women at various levels, including branch secretaries, to ensure a stronger presence in the party’s leadership and candidate lists.
In a separate session with the Student Wing, there were calls to organize various competitions through Dravidian student councils and to establish a “Student Assembly” in schools to engage and unify college students under the party’s banner.
These discussions mark the beginning of DMK’s comprehensive strategy to strengthen its position and ensure diverse representation in the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections.
