Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) commuters were once again faced with inconvenience on Wednesday as a recurring technical glitch on the blue line disrupted direct Metro services between Meenambakkam and Airport Metro stations. The disruption, occurring in the early hours of the day, prompted CMRL to cancel direct Metro trains between Central Metro and Airport Metro stations for the entirety of Wednesday.
The severity of the glitch necessitated swift action, leaving passengers scrambling to find alternative transit options. To mitigate the impact of the disruption, passengers traveling to the airport via the green line were directed to interchange at Arignar Anna Alandur Metro station. However, despite efforts to rectify the issue, nearly six hours elapsed before the technical glitch was finally addressed.
Subsequently, normal service between Central Metro and the airport on the green line resumed by Wednesday afternoon, bringing relief to stranded commuters. Nevertheless, the recurrence of such technical issues raises concerns about the reliability and efficiency of Chennai’s Metro system.
This is not the first instance of a technical glitch disrupting Metro services, as a similar incident was reported by CMRL just last month, underscoring the persistent challenges faced by the city’s public transportation infrastructure.
