The scorching temperatures that have gripped southern districts of Tamil Nadu were alleviated on Wednesday as summer rains brought a much-needed downpour, offering respite to residents. However, the heavy rainfall also resulted in waterlogging in various areas, prompting authorities to issue precautionary advisories.

Parts of Virudhunagar district witnessed particularly intense rainfall, leading to a significant drop in temperatures and creating a cold weather phenomenon in the region. The Meteorological Department has forecasted continued heavy rainfall in Virudhunagar district for Thursday, issuing an Orange alert to warn residents of potential hazards.

In response to the weather forecast, district authorities have implemented precautionary measures to ensure the safety of residents. Those residing in low-lying areas have been advised to exercise caution, and authorities have urged individuals to avoid areas prone to waterlogging. The Revenue Department officials have been instructed to monitor the situation closely and provide assistance as needed.

To streamline assistance efforts, a round-the-clock control room has been established in Virudhunagar, with residents encouraged to dial 1077 for any rain-related emergencies. Similarly, Tenkasi district has also been placed under an Orange alert, highlighting the need for heightened vigilance and preparedness among residents.

The onset of rainfall has had varying impacts across the region, with some areas experiencing flooding. Chinna Suruli waterfalls near Andipatti in Theni district, for instance, witnessed a surge in water levels, prompting forest personnel to restrict tourists from bathing in the falls to ensure their safety.
