The Cuddalore district police have taken action against K Annamalai, the BJP state president, along with three others, for allegedly inciting violence by spreading false information. The individuals have been charged with provocation aimed at causing a riot, following their claims that a woman was murdered and her family members attacked for not voting for the DMK-led alliance in the Lok Sabha polls.
Srimushnam police have initiated legal proceedings against Annamalai and his associates under sections 153, 504, and 505 of the Indian Penal Code, which pertain to provocation leading to rioting, intentional insult to provoke breach of peace, and making statements conducive to public mischief, respectively. Investigations into the matter are currently underway.
Annamalai’s statement alleging the murder and assault in Pakkirimaniyam village due to non-voting has stirred controversy. However, the Cuddalore district police have refuted these claims, asserting that the altercation stemmed from pre-existing enmity between the involved families. According to the police release, a quarrel erupted between members of the two families on Friday, suggesting a different narrative than that presented by Annamalai.
