Indira Kumari, a prominent political figure and former Minister, passed away at the age of 73 last night.  She held significant roles within both the AIADMK and the DMK.

Indira Kumari was undergoing treatment for kidney-related ailments at a private hospital in the city before succumbing to her illness.

During her illustrious career, Indira Kumari served as a minister in former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s cabinet, notably during the 1991-96 AIADMK tenure. She later switched to DMK and was appointed as president of the DMK literary wing.

However, her legacy is not without controversy. In 2021, Indira Kumari, along with her husband, faced legal repercussions when they were convicted by a special court for MLAs and MPs for their involvement in misappropriation of funds.
