Special buses to clear weekend rush

Chennai: To accommodate the anticipated surge in travel demand during the upcoming weekend and auspicious day (Subha Muhurtha Naal), the State Transport department has announced the operation of special buses from Friday to Sunday.

With more passengers expected to travel to and from Chennai on April 5 to April 7, the department has devised a plan to augment its regular service with special buses.

On Friday, April 5, a total of 265 special buses will be deployed from Kilambakkam to various destinations including Tiruvannamalai, Tiruchy, Kumbakonam, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Nagercoil, Kanniyakumari, Coimbatore, Salem, Erode, and Tirupur. This initiative aims to cater to the increased travel demand on the first day of the weekend.

The following day, Saturday, April 6, an even larger fleet of 365 special buses will be in operation, ensuring convenient travel options for passengers traveling to and from Chennai.

Additionally, 55 special buses will ply from Koyambedu to destinations such as Nagapattinam, Velankanni, Hosur, and Bengaluru on both Friday and Saturday.

Furthermore, the State Transport department has arranged 200 buses to operate from Bengaluru, Tirupur, Erode, and Coimbatore to various locations, facilitating travel for passengers originating from these cities.

To accommodate the return journey of passengers to Chennai and Bengaluru from their hometowns, additional buses have been arranged on Sundays, ensuring a smooth travel experience for all commuters.
