The Tamil Nadu unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by president K Annamalai, has called upon the Election Commission of India (ECI) to take stringent action against DMK minister Anitha Radhakrishnan for his disparaging remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.In a letter addressed to the Chief Electoral Officer of Tamil Nadu, Sathyabrata Sahoo, BJP state vice-president Karu Nagarajan emphasized the need to uphold the sanctity of the democratic process. He urged the ECI to initiate strict measures against both Anitha Radhakrishnan and DMK candidate Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, citing their controversial comments directed at PM Modi.
The BJP highlighted the violation of the Model Code of Conduct, particularly clause 2 under General Conduct, which prohibits criticism of other political parties beyond their policies, programs, past record, and work. By making derogatory remarks against the Prime Minister, the DMK minister allegedly breached these guidelines, prompting the BJP’s demand for disciplinary action.
State BJP president K Annamalai condemned the DMK’s behavior, accusing its leaders of resorting to uncivilized behavior and engaging in reprehensible public discourse against PM Modi. He criticized the DMK’s purported attempts to denigrate the Prime Minister, suggesting that such actions reflect poorly on the party’s integrity.
Meanwhile, the Thoothukudi BJP unit filed a complaint against Anitha Radhakrishnan, leading to the registration of a case by the Megnanapuram police in Thoothukudi district.
