Senior Congress leader EVKS Elangovan has thrown down the gauntlet to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, daring him to contest from any constituency in Tamil Nadu and retain his deposit. Speaking to reporters in Erode, Elangovan challenged Modi to prove his popularity by securing his deposit in the state.Elangovan, while referring to Modi as a dictator, criticized the Prime Minister for allegedly betraying people to garner votes and retain the BJP’s deposit in Tamil Nadu. He questioned Modi’s frequent visits to the state and called upon him to contest in the upcoming elections to substantiate his claims of being connected to the people.Challenging Modi on his commitment to the people, Elangovan highlighted the Congress’s stance on contentious issues like the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), asserting that the act would be repealed once the Congress forms the government. He also announced that the Congress would release its list of candidates for the upcoming polls in Tamil Nadu within three days.In a sharp rebuke to BJP leader Khushbu Sundar, who criticized the state government’s scheme of providing financial assistance to women heads of families, Elangovan accused her of being interested in begging and predicted that she would face a similar fate soon.Elangovan further praised former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa for implementing welfare schemes for women in Tamil Nadu, stating that it was she who initiated the practice of affixing stickers to government schemes. He emphasized that Chief Minister MK Stalin’s administration continues to prioritize welfare projects for the people, with schemes that are being adopted by other states as well.
