Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has vehemently criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent attempts to revive the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), accusing him of exploiting religious sentiments for political gain as elections loom.
In a scathing message posted on social media, Stalin asserted that the people of India would never forgive the BJP for unleashing the divisive CAA, which discriminates based on religion and race. He also condemned the AIADMK, labeling them as “spineless lackeys” for shamelessly supporting the legislation.
Stalin emphasized that the BJP’s divisive agenda has transformed the Citizenship Act, once seen as a beacon of humanity, into a tool of discrimination. He lamented the betrayal of Muslims and Sri Lankan Tamils by the BJP-led government, asserting that their actions have sown seeds of division in the country.
Despite strong opposition from democratic forces like the DMK, Stalin highlighted how the CAA was passed with the support of the AIADMK. However, he noted that fearing backlash from the people, the BJP kept the act in cold storage.
Since assuming power in 2021, the DMK-led government has taken a firm stance against the CAA. Stalin pointed out that a resolution was passed in the State Assembly urging the Union Government to repeal the CAA, emphasizing the need to safeguard national unity, uphold social harmony, and protect the ideal of secularism enshrined in the constitution.
Stalin’s condemnation of Prime Minister Modi’s attempt to resurrect the CAA underscores the deep-rooted opposition to the legislation in Tamil Nadu.
