Tamil Nadu BJP chief, K Annamalai, launched a scathing attack on Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) chief Kamal Haasan, accusing him of surrendering to political expediency by joining hands with the DMK. Annamalai criticized Haasan for allegedly compromising his principles for the prospect of a single Rajya Sabha seat, scheduled for the year 2025.
In a blistering rebuke, Annamalai asserted, “Our actor Kamal Haasan decided to shake hands with the DMK. For a long time, we could all see this was coming. Now, it shows that a person who stood against the DMK in 2019 and in the 2021 assembly elections has surrendered to one Rajya Sabha seat that too for 2025 where the same MLAs against whom he spoke will now vote for him in 2025.”
Annamalai’s criticism underscored the BJP’s perception of Kamal  Haasan’s alliance with the DMK as a betrayal of his previous stance against the party. He portrayed Kamal Haasan’s move as a calculated political maneuver, driven by personal ambition and opportunism rather than ideological integrity.
Furthermore, Annamalai positioned the BJP as the sole alternative capable of safeguarding Tamil Nadu from the alleged clutches of the DMK. He emphasized the BJP’s distinctiveness in the political landscape, painting the party as a beacon of change against the backdrop of what he described as “political drama” in the state.
Asserting confidence in the electorate’s discernment, Annamalai predicted that the people of Tamil Nadu would deliver a resounding verdict against Haasan and the DMK in the upcoming 2024 elections. He implied that the electorate would see through what he portrayed as Haasan’s political opportunism and teach both him and the DMK a lesson at the polls.
