The Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a stark warning regarding the prevailing heatwave conditions in Tamil Nadu, projecting their persistence until the first week of June. The notification, released by the Centre, provides detailed insights into the expected weather patterns and advises precautionary measures to mitigate the adverse effects of the intense heat.According to the notification, a dry climate is anticipated to prevail in the regions of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikkal until the 3rd of June. Despite this arid forecast, there are slight prospects for mild rains in isolated areas of Tamil Nadu, as well as in a few regions of Puducherry and Karaikkal.
The intensity of the heatwave is expected to escalate further, with temperatures possibly rising by 2-3 Degrees Celsius above normal levels in certain parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikkal. This increase in temperature poses significant health risks and underscores the importance of staying hydrated and avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun.
For residents of the Chennai Metro City and its suburbs, partly cloudy conditions are anticipated over the next 48 hours. While these clouds may provide temporary relief from the scorching heat, it remains imperative for individuals to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to safeguard against heat-related illnesses.
The maximum temperature forecasted for the region ranges between 33-34 Degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is expected to hover around 24-25 Degrees Celsius. These elevated temperatures, coupled with the prolonged duration of the heatwave, emphasize the critical need for communities to implement measures aimed at heat resilience and adaptation.
