Rajkot, Feb 16: Following a regrettable mix-up resulting in the run-out dismissal of debutant Sarfaraz Khan on Day 1 of the third Test against England, India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja acknowledged making the “wrong call.” Despite the miscommunication, Jadeja commended the debutant for his impressive innings.
Sarfaraz, who made quickfire 48-ball 50 in his first Test, was going playing in tandem in star all-rounder Jadeja. But his innings was cut short as he run out at the non-striker’s end.
‘Feeling bad’ for the Sarfaraz, Jadeja took to social media and admitted it was his wrong call. Posting on an Instagram story, Jadeja wrote, “Feeling bad for Sarfaraz Khan. It was my wrong call. Well played.”
Meanwhile, in the post-match press conference, Sarfaraz said, “There was a little miscommunication. This is part of the game. Sometimes there is a run-out, sometimes there is a run, and sometimes there is not. So all this goes on.
“He (Jadeja) said that there was a little miscommunication. And I said that it is okay. It happens. There is nothing big in it,” said Sarfaraz.
Making a sparkling debut for Rohit’s Team India, Sarfaraz smashed 62 off 66 before the debutant was run out in James Anderson’s over. The Mumbai batter also achieved the feat of smashing the joint-fastest half-century by an Indian on debut. Sarfaraz’s dismissal also invited a fuming reaction from Rohit in the Indian dressing room.
Following Sarfaraz’s departure, Jadeja brought out his sword swirl to celebrate his fourth Test century. Jadeja remained unbeaten on 110 off 212 balls as India reached 326-5 in 86 overs at Stumps. England pacer Wood bagged three wickets and leaked 69 runs in 17 overs.
