The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly witnessed unprecedented drama as Governor R.N. Ravi staged a walkout during the inaugural session for the year 2024, sparking speculations of underlying tensions between the Governor and the DMK government.
Leader of the Opposition, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, weighed in on the controversy, attributing the Governor’s walkout to unresolved issues between him and the ruling DMK government. Palaniswami pointed to a remark made by Speaker M. Appavu against the Governor, suggesting that it may have been a contributing factor.
According to Palaniswami, the Governor had requested that the National Anthem be sung at both the beginning and end of his address. However, his suggestion was reportedly ignored, leading to his refusal to deliver the customary address at the House.
“This is a matter between the Governor, the Government, and the Speaker. Only they can provide clarity on the situation. As an opposition party, it is not our place to intervene. Journalists should direct their inquiries to the state government and the Speaker regarding this matter,” Palaniswami stated, deflecting questions regarding the Governor’s actions.
