Chennai, Jan 27: In the lead-up to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the parties within the INDIA bloc, a coalition of opposition forces, are navigating through differences to present a united front against the incumbent BJP government. D. Raja, General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI), expressed optimism that these differences, specific to each state, can be resolved through dialogue.
Addressing reporters, Raja acknowledged the varying political landscapes in different states, emphasizing that the diversity of the coalition is both its strength and challenge. In Tamil Nadu, the DMK spearheads the alliance, with the Left parties and Congress collaborating seamlessly. However, the dynamics differ in states like Kerala and Bihar. Raja asserted that talks among the coalition partners are underway to address these variations, highlighting that the primary goal is to unseat the perceived “fascist” BJP government.
Raja underscored the importance of unity within the INDIA bloc, emphasizing that every party shares a common agenda: to safeguard the country, democracy, and uphold the constitution. Despite internal differences, the overarching objective of defeating the BJP remains paramount for all alliance members.
However, Raja pointed out the challenges posed by the BJP, accusing them of attempting to disrupt the unity of opposition parties. Allegations were made regarding the misuse of central agencies, such as the ED and CBI, to exert pressure on INDIA bloc participants. Raja disclosed that these concerns have been brought to the attention of the apex court, reflecting the gravity of the situation.
Turning attention to electoral concerns, Raja expressed doubts about the credibility of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and highlighted the need for the Election Commission to address public skepticism. The INDIA bloc has conveyed its concerns to the Election Commission, urging the body to ensure transparent and fair elections, maintaining a level playing field for all political parties.
