Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) leader Anbumani Ramadoss has reiterated his call for a caste-based survey in Tamil Nadu, drawing parallels with the recent survey conducted in Bihar. Speaking at a conference on caste-based survey, he emphasized the need for unity among like-minded parties and organizations to ensure social justice. Anbumani Ramadoss highlighted that the current reservation system in India is based on a survey conducted in 1931. He argued that a contemporary caste survey is essential to accurately assess the status of each community. In his remarks to reporters, he underlined the significance of social justice in education and employment, advocating for an updated understanding of the demographic landscape. To prompt action from the Tamil Nadu Government, Ramadoss announced plans to hold conferences on caste-based survey throughout the state. He asserted that none of the 436 communities opposed the survey, emphasizing its importance, particularly with the 69 percent reservation case pending in the Supreme Court. Taking a swipe at the DMK, Anbumani Ramadoss challenged the party, which claims to follow in the footsteps of ‘Periyar’ E.V. Ramasamy and asserts that the state is the birthplace of social justice. He argued that the DMK should not shy away from conducting a caste-based survey, citing the example of Bihar, where a similar survey led to an increase in reservation from 60 to 75 percent. He criticized the hesitancy of Tamil Nadu, with its population of 7.5 crore, in contrast to Bihar’s 13 crore population that completed the survey in just 45 days. @@@
