Chennai, Dec 12: In a concerted effort to aid those affected by Cyclone Michaung, the State government has announced the successful reception and distribution of relief material valued at Rs 17.60 crore. This benevolent initiative spans 34 districts, with a primary focus on providing essential supplies to the cyclone-affected regions of Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, and Thiruvallur.
The State government revealed that the relief material, a testament to the collective generosity of 34 districts, comprises a diverse array of necessities. Among the items distributed are an impressive 10,77,000 drinking water bottles, 3,02,165 bread packets, 13,08,847 packets of biscuits, 73.4 tonnes of milk powder, 4,35,000 kg of rice, 23,220 kg of urad dal, and various cooking ingredients.
The extensive relief operation reached the cyclone-affected populace across 15 zones of the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), as well as Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Avadi, Tambaram corporations, and Kundrathur municipality. This comprehensive distribution strategy ensures that aid reaches the areas most severely impacted by Cyclone Michaung.
Highlighting the collective efforts to provide relief, the State government acknowledged the contribution of non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Relief material worth nearly Rs 50 lakhs, mobilized through NGOs utilizing an exclusive WhatsApp number, is also being dispatched to areas in need of assistance. This collaborative approach underscores the importance of public-private partnerships in times of crisis.
