The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has intensified its probe into money laundering cases, summoning Tamil Nadu’s state higher education minister, K Ponmudy, and Vellore Member of Parliament, Kathir Anand, son of Tamil Nadu’s water resources minister, Duraimurugan. Kathir Anand is set to face ED investigators on November 28, while Minister Ponmudy has been asked to appear on November 30. These summonses are part of separate investigations into alleged financial irregularities. Sources revealed that Kathir Anand’s summons is linked to the seizure of Rs 11 crore from a residence in Katpadi before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The ED has been actively pursuing leads in connection with this substantial amount. Minister K Ponmudy, on the other hand, is under the ED’s scrutiny for his alleged involvement in a money laundering case. He had previously appeared before the ED in July, following the agency’s searches of properties associated with him and his son, MP Gautham Sigamani, in both the city and Villupuram.
