In a letter addressed to Union Minister for External Affairs S. Jaishankar, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has raised concerns about the reported disappearance of a fisherman from Kanniyakumari district, S. Pethalis, in Oman. Pethalis is one of the 18 fishermen from Tamil Nadu working at Duqm harbour in Oman. The letter highlights the alleged “detention” of Pethalis, emphasizing the anxieties expressed by his family regarding his safety and well-being after being taken to an undisclosed location by unidentified individuals. The situation unfolded amid tensions between the fishermen, led by Pethalis, and the boat owner, who purportedly failed to pay their salaries. Chief Minister Stalin, referring to a plea from the missing fisherman’s wife, Shoba Rani, underscored the urgency of the matter. He has urged Union Minister Jaishankar to direct the Indian diplomatic mission in Oman to take immediate steps through appropriate diplomatic channels to locate and repatriate Pethalis to India. @@@@
