Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated Hitachi Energy’s largest Global Technology and Innovation Centre in Chennai. Nestled within the bustling Commerzone IT Park on Mount Ponnamallee Road in Porur, this sprawling facility spans an impressive 3,00,000 square feet, with a dedicated lab space spanning nearly 50,000 square feet.
This state-of-the-art Centre is set to become a hub for innovation and energy transition technology. It will house more than 2,500 energy transition technologists, each equipped with post-doctorate and postgraduate degrees, specializing in various critical fields such as grid automation, transformers, high-voltage systems, and grid integration. The Centre is primed to execute over 1,000 projects annually, spanning across 40 countries worldwide.
In his address at the inauguration, Stalin expressed his enthusiasm for the facility’s potential impact on the region, stating, “Such world-class innovation and technology centers coming up in Tamil Nadu reflect the quality of our local talent and will further boost the State’s vision of becoming a trillion-dollar economy by 2030.” This sentiment highlights the immense confidence in the capabilities of the local workforce and its potential to drive economic growth.
Hitachi Energy’s presence in Tamil Nadu is not a recent development. The company launched its energy generation unit in the state back in February, and the inauguration of this expansive technology and innovation center serves as a continuation of their commitment to the region.
